For example, back pain is a common complaint we treat regularly. We can use spinal decompression, a gentle and nonsurgical means of therapy, to treat your pain quickly and effectively.

Let us help you decide what treatment is right for you.

What Is Spinal Decompression Therapy?

Decompression therapy is a nonsurgical spinal treatment that uses a motorized table to gently stretch the spine. It relieves pressure on your vertebrae and the spinal discs between them. This also relieves tension on your nerves and muscles, easing pain.

Chiropractors can use decompression to treat the following conditions:

  • Neck or back pain

  • Herniated disk or degenerative disk disease

  • Sciatica or damaged spinal nerves

  • Worn down spinal joints

Spinal adjustments like decompression shouldn’t be painful and require no anesthesia. It can be completed in several half-hour sessions at our offices, and in some cases, these sessions may be covered by your insurance company.

While most people are candidates for decompression treatment, some are not. Specifically, you won’t be a good candidate if you’ve had spinal surgery in the past, or if you currently have osteoporosis or tumors near the spine.

How Does Spinal Decompression Treat Back Pain?

Spinal decompression is a treatment for back pain designed to help relieve pressure on your spine and redistribute spinal fluids.

You may need up to 20 or 30 treatments, depending on the treatment plan you develop with the chiropractor. During each treatment, you’ll lay on your back or stomach on the table. You’ll be fitted with a harness around your hips and the chiropractor will begin your specialized treatment.

The table will move back and forth, gently stretching your spine. Some patients find it soothing.

Depending on your treatment plan, your decompression session might be preceded by another treatment, like heat therapy, electrical stimulation, or ultrasound stimulation.
